We were replacing our wood decking with composite. I had done this on a previous deck and found the joists deteriorated at the spacing between deck boards. At that time I cut flashing to go on the joists. That was a hassle. I learned about deck joist tape a couple of years ago. So when I was changing out decking I ordered it. Two points to be made: 1) the tape will not adhere to wet boards and 2) if you are putting it on old deck boards, make sure you clean them off well before applying the tape.
